Don’t have a machine? Don’t let that stop you! For a mere $10 per hour, you can have access to one of three machines here at Sew LA in addition to a serger, a cutting table, an iron and some basic supplies. If you have never sewn before, we suggest you take the Machine Intro class before renting a machine – let us know when you schedule time and we’ll work out the details! We also offer a quickie “Machine Refresher” if you just need a reminder as to where the bobbin goes. (The Bobbin Goes On Your Nose! – what a great kid’s book that would be...)
The Nitty-Gritty:
- The full Machine Intro class is $45 for 2.5 hours of instruction
- The “Machine Refresher” is $15: threading the machine, winding the bobbin, inserting the needle, changing stitch length & width.
- Bargain alert: “Machine Refresher” plus 2 hour in the Sewlab for $30 – you save five bucks! Woo Hoo!
The Story
Shaerie says: ‘For the longest time, I have wanted a group of crafty folks to hang out with and create amazing things. A community! Teaching really jump-started that part of my brain again – it’s incredibly rewarding to be a part of another person’s creativity, and it’s like a circle – the more ideas you have in one area the more you’ll have in others!. After reading online about San Francisco’s Stitch Lounge, I thought, how great would that be for Los Angeles? The ladies who run the Stitch Lounge were super-polite and helpful when I asked them questions about how they started up.’
